Domestic Violence Prevention Enhancement and Leadership through Alliances (DELTA) Project.
DELTA is a primary prevention initiative designed to expand our community’s focus from crisis-driven responses to domestic violence to include work to stop the cycle of violence before it ever begins.
Approximately 1.5 million women are raped and/or physically assaulted by an intimate partner in the United States each year. This makes Intimate Partner Violence a significant public health problem.
In 2002, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) funded fourteen states to build community capacity to prevent intimate partner violence. Ohio Domestic Violence Network (ODVN) was selected to lead the Ohio initiative.
In the fall of 2003, ODVN used CDC funding to award three year grants (which were later extended another two years) to four Ohio communities to implement local DELTA Projects. Lucas County was chosen as the urban project for the state. Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center was selected to serve as the lead agency and fiscal agent for the Lucas County DELTA Project.
Since 2003, the DELTA Project has worked to mobilize the community to promote peaceful, healthy relationships. We have engaged in a comprehensive strategic planning process that has included focus groups and a needs and resource assessment.
DELTA has worked diligently to build prevention capacity in Lucas County and to implement comprehensive evidence-based programs that address all levels of the social ecology.
We believe that society has the power to prevent Intimate Partner Violence. By working to prevent violence today, we can build stronger families for tomorrow.
Vision:
The DELTA Project of Lucas County will mobilize our community to prevent intimate partner violence and promote peaceful healthy relationships as the norm. All community members receive the skills, competencies, and support necessary for creating healthy relationships. All sectors of our community understand that violence is unacceptable and hold each other accountable. We will join forces to act as positive influences within our families and peer groups
Mission:
DELTA is an intimate partner violence prevention collaborative that empowers the community to promote healthy relationships within their sphere of influence.
Goals of the DELTA Project:
- Bring the issue of Intimate Partner Prevention to the forefront, promoting community awareness and education about healthy relationships
- Cultivate and sustain a coordinated prevention community model
- Build capacity and empower the community to work to promote healthy relationships within their sphere of influence
Meeting Times
DELTA meets the second Tuesday of each month from 1:30 to 3:00 in the Community Services Building at One Stranahan Square, Toledo, Ohio. DELTA is open to any person concerned about the prevention of intimate partner violence.
