Mini-grants
DELTA Mini Grant Awards 2007-2008
July 2007: DELTA awarded its third annual mini-grant funding meant to enable organizations to expand or enhance their work to include the promotion of healthy relationships. Projects reach varying levels of the sociological spectrum in order to ensure that community change occurs broadly. Funds of up to $1,500.00 per organization were allotted for seven local projects that are committed to prevention programming in Lucas County .
Healthy Relationships for Youth:
TOLEDO CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL
Teen PEP (Positive Education Program)
Expect Respect Youth Leadership
The interactive and engaging teen leadership training that Teen PEP has provided to youth all over Lucas County for many years has used DELTA funding to focus on intimate partner violence prevention through healthy relationship promotion. DELTA awarded a mini-grant in June of 2005 and again in June 2006 to Toledo Children’s Hospital to provide these innovative services. Teen PEP will be expanding their healthy relationship promotion programming into all of the schools they serve with this year’s mini-grant.

AMEERICA’S PRIDE
PEACE Project (Protect Every Abused Child Everywhere)
Teens for Peaceful Relationships
This group of highly motivated high school students has taken on the issue of intimate partner violence prevention as an extension of the work they have been doing to raise community awareness about dating violence and child abuse. America’s Pride has a tradition of developing and presenting innovative and engaging performances to youth and adults alike with the intention enlightening folks about serious societal issues, which they will continue doing with the incorporation of a healthy relationships message into their performance pieces. It is very exciting to see young people get involved in this way!
SELF-EXPRESSION TEEN THEATER
Intimate Partner Prevention Program
Expect Respect Teen Theatre Project
This well known inner-city teen theatre group has incorporated intimate partner violence prevention learning and messages into their youth training and theatre productions. DELTA awarded a mini-grant in June of 2005 and again in June 2006 to fund this project. SETT has been awarded DELTA mini-grant funding for yet another year as the theater troupe continues to grow in their understanding of and practice in preventing IPV.

CITY OF TOLEDO YOUTH COMMISSION
Young Women’s Empowerment Conference
The city of Toledo is sponsoring a young women’s empowerment conference in the fall of 2007 that will focus on making healthy choices. This conference will use the technical assistance of DELTA to create an interactive workshop on healthy dating relationships for the young women who attend. This is an exciting effort that has a lot of support through local professional women that want to be involved in influencing Toledo ’s young women to achieve their full potential.

MAN UP
Young Men’s Empowerment Conference
Man Up is a program designed to engage men of all ages to look to each other for support and accountability. The young men’s empowerment conference that will be held in the fall of 2007, will pair young men up with adult male mentors. Through this mentoring relationship, the young men will learn about making positive and healthy choices for their future with the advice that only life experience can give. This conference will address skills to help foster healthy dating relationships as well as skills necessary to hold one another accountable to a standard of respect.

Helping Parents Teach Their Children about Healthy Relationships

Healthy Beginnings Program
PICK a Partner (Pre-marital Information and Program with Parents
This program will recruit parents from local Catholic parishes and schools to present interactive healthy relationship materials that may then be related to their children. This program will utilize the PICK a Partner curriculum that was designed to create dialogue about making healthy choices in dating relationships. DELTA is excited to engage part of the religious community through this interactive program.

YMCA
Chance for Change
Expect Respect for Parents
Providing parents with the knowledge and skills to model and teach healthy relationships to their children. In July of 2006, YMCA’s “Chance for Change” received a mini-grant to serve community parents. In 2007 this program was approved to receive DELTA mini-grant funding again in order to enhance it’s parenting component of the Expect Respect program.
